The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has summoned BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani and the company’s technical head over allegations of ticketing fraud related to Coldplay's Mumbai concert. The summons, issued on September 30, follows a complaint suggesting BookMyShow allowed unauthorized ticket resales, leading to massive price inflation—tickets priced at ₹4,500 were allegedly resold for as much as ₹10,56,320.
The complaint accuses BookMyShow of employing bots to control ticket sales, creating artificial scarcity and enabling third-party resales at inflated prices, violating ticketing regulations. This is not the first time such issues have arisen; similar allegations were made during concerts by artists like Diljit Dosanjh and Karan Aujla, where concertgoers reported ticket invalidation and inflated resale prices, sometimes resulting in denial of entry.
On October 26, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids in Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Chandigarh, and Bengaluru to investigate unauthorized ticket sales. This probe highlights concerns around transparency in ticketing practices and aims to protect consumers from exploitative resale schemes. Authorities remind fans to use authorized platforms to avoid such scams.
